Must read

Quebec’s independent police oversight body is conducting an investigation following an incident involving a police pursuit that resulted in one fatality and another individual sustaining severe injuries near LĂ©vis overnight.

Authorities responded to reports of a collision and gunshots on the Pierre-Laporte Bridge in Quebec City at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) stated that a person was seriously injured in the collision, and a suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle on the bridge, leading to gunfire that wounded one person with two bullets. Provincial police initiated a pursuit before 1:30 a.m. and intercepted the stolen vehicle at Lallemand Road and Guillaume-Couture Boulevard in LĂ©vis, with the assistance of local police.

Law enforcement from the Sûreté du Québec, Quebec City police service, and Lévis police surrounded the vehicle. A provincial police tactical unit discovered the individual inside the vehicle unconscious, and their death was confirmed at the scene.

The BEI disclosed that the gunshot victim is now in stable condition. Seven BEI investigators have been assigned to examine the circumstances of the incident, with Montreal police providing investigative assistance. Additionally, Montreal police are conducting a separate inquiry into the events preceding the police intervention.

The BEI is seeking witnesses to come forward and encourages them to reach out through the agency’s website for further information.
