Prince Albert authorities reported the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a teenager who went missing in June. Collaborating in the search for 14-year-old Peyton Flett were the city’s public works and fire departments, as well as the Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue team. The body was found close to the 300 block of 40th Street East, as indicated in a police statement.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday to identify the individual and ascertain the cause and circumstances of death. Peyton Flett’s mother, Danica Moore, revealed that police informed her they suspect the body to be her daughter’s, but she declined to comment further. Police confirmed that an active investigation into the suspicious death is being conducted in cooperation with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, as well as the major crimes and forensic identification units.
Authorities, along with the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents, held a news briefing on Wednesday appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating her. The last confirmed sighting of Flett was on June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue close to the Northern Lights Casino.
Law enforcement officers are currently present at the discovery site, examining a wooded area near 40th Street. Temporary traffic restrictions are expected to remain in effect, and the public is urged to avoid the area. Updates will be provided as new information emerges.
