The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In a corresponding move, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, with Lazaro Estrada being designated for assignment to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo while right-hander Chase Lee was optioned to Triple-A on the same day. Guerrero exited Friday’s game against the Yankees after a collision with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a chaotic play at third base in the sixth inning.
During the incident, Lombard attempted to leap over Guerrero as he slid into third base, resulting in his knee and thigh hitting Guerrero’s head, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the collision, Guerrero managed to run home to score before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning.
Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, will be monitored as he recovers. Meanwhile, Tiedemann, who posted a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in seven games (including two starts) across three minor league levels this season, has been called up as part of the roster adjustments.
