Provincial authorities have reported the tragic death of a 22-year-old individual following a motorcycle crash in Pickering, Ontario, during the early hours of Saturday. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the incident on Highway 401, between Brock Road and Westney Road, just before 2:30 a.m.
The young man, hailing from Scarborough, lost his life after colliding with an electronic sign board within a construction zone. OPP shared the news of the fatality on social media. Reports indicated that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high speed, leading to him being thrown from the motorcycle and sustaining fatal injuries.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt mentioned in a video update that the man’s family has been informed of the tragic incident. Following the crash, Highway 401’s westbound lanes near Westney Road and Brock Road were shut down for an extended period as investigations were carried out. However, the road has since been reopened.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
